In a bold celebration of culture, unity, and empowerment, the Mushin community came alive at the inaugural OJ Falana Ileya Funfair, a grassroots-centered event hosted by Mr. Owolabi Jamiu Falana, Permanent Board Member of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board. Held at New State High School, Palm Avenue, the funfair brought together residents across all ten wards of Mushin in a vibrant display of festivity and fellowship.
The event, organized to commemorate the recently celebrated Ileya (Eid-el-Kabir), transcended the traditional scope of holiday merriment by serving as a unifying force and a platform for economic upliftment In attendance was Hon. Toyin Fayinka, Member of the Federal House of Representatives for Mushin Constituency II, alongside APC party leaders and Community Development Association (CDA) representatives from across the community.
The funfair grounds buzzed with excitement as attendees of all ages engaged in a variety of games, including snooker, table tennis, ludo, draught (checkers), and other traditional and modern contests. In a refreshing twist that added depth to the celebration, winners of the game competitions were rewarded with cash prizes, injecting an element of empowerment and financial support into the festivities.
Speaking on behalf of the Falana family, Mr. Owolabi Jamiu Falana expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Mushin community, party leaders, friends, and family for their steadfast support. He also made a significant announcement:
“This event will now become a yearly tradition for the entire Mushin community.”
With its resounding success, the OJ Falana Ileya Funfair has laid the foundation for a new tradition- one that blends celebration with purpose, fostering unity, grassroots inclusion, and socioeconomic empowerment.
