Malam Idris gave the charge on Friday, 22nd August 2025, at the opening ceremony of the training, organised for registration officers drawn from the six (6) Area Councils and the INEC FCT Head Office. He emphasised that the Commission expects the highest level of professionalism, discipline, and ethical conduct from the officers as they discharge their duties during the exercise.
He further urged participants to take the training seriously, stressing that the CVR is a sensitive national assignment requiring integrity, efficiency, and neutrality. According to him, “This exercise provides our citizens the platform to register, update, and validate their voter information ahead of future elections. You must therefore be meticulous, patient, and courteous in dealing with members of the public.”
Also speaking, the Administrative Secretary of INEC FCT, Mrs. Bimbo Oladunjoye, highlighted the importance of continuous training for personnel, noting that efficient use of technology, knowledgeable human resources, and adherence to standard processes remain key drivers for a successful CVR exercise. She urged the officers to adopt the right attitude to learning and to pay close attention to recent innovations introduced in the CVR technology, including data capture systems, voter verification tools, and improved security features designed to prevent multiple registration.
Mrs. Oladunjoye also reminded participants that the credibility of elections begins with credible voter registration, adding that citizens expect transparency and accountability from INEC officials in the course of the exercise.
In the FCT, a total of sixty-six (66) Registration Officers are undergoing the training, which precedes the commencement of the in-person CVR exercise scheduled to begin on Monday, 25th August 2025, at the INEC Area Council Offices and the Commission’s Head Office in Abuja.
The exercise will provide eligible citizens, particularly first-time registrants, those who have changed residence, and individuals seeking to update lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), the opportunity to be duly captured in the National Voter Register.
The training programme reflects INEC’s commitment to capacity building and operational readiness in line with its mandate to ensure credible, transparent, and inclusive electoral processes.
